Hempstead, N.Y. — Hofstra used a balanced offensive attack to defeat Drexel, 86-58, at the Mack Sports Complex on Wednesday night. Brian Bernardi led Hofstra with 23 points and had six three-pointers, while Juan'ya Green had a double-double as the Pride improved to 5-2 in league play and 14-6 overall. Drexel is now 4-14 and 2-5 in the Colonial Athletic Association.

The Pride opened up an eight-point lead to start the second half as the Dragons overcame a tough start. Sammy Mojica tipped home a shot at the buzzer to make it 39-31 at intermission. After the break, Hofstra opened the second half with a 9-2 run to take control of the game. Drexel was able to hit back to back three-pointers with 12 minutes to play as Damion Lee and Freddie Wilson each drained treys. That cut the lead to 15, but Hofstra answered with 10 straight to put the game away. The lead swelled to as many as 36 points with just under three minutes left.

Damion Lee led the Dragons with 27 points. He was 6-for-13 from the floor and made all 13 of his free throw attempts. Lee also had seven rebounds, three assists and two steals. Tavon Allen added 10 points but was just 3-for-15 shooting on the night. Overall, Drexel shot 35 percent in the game and committed 18 turnovers. Freshman Tyshawn Myles tied Lee for the team lead with seven boards.

On the other end, the Pride shot 51 percent from the floor. Hofstra controlled the boards, outrebounding the Dragons by 14 and coming up with 15 offensive rebounds. Bernardi was 6-for-10 from deep. Green scored 11 points and 11 rebounds, while Malik Nichols also had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

The Dragons will return home and start a three game homestand this weekend. Drexel hosts the College of Charleston on Homecoming Saturday at 12 p.m.
