College of Charleston Edges Men's Soccer, 1-0
10/3/2015 6:26:00 PM | Men's Soccer
PHILADELPHIA – On a cold, blustery day at Vidas Field, the Drexel men's soccer team could not get its offense heated up as the Dragons fell to the College of Charleston, 1-0. Drexel had 17 shots on the afternoon, seven of which went on goal, but the Dragons could not find the back of the net as they were shut out.
Drexel (2-8-1, 1-3-0) has now dropped the first two games of a three-game homestand, the second three-game run at Vidas Field this season. The Dragons have three home games remaining, including a pair of Colonial Athletic Association matches later this month.
The Cougars got the game's lone goal in the 55th minute. TK Abderahman brought the ball up the right side, sending a cross in with his right foot from 25 yards out. It sailed towards the back post, where Martin Sedari dove forward, heading it inside the post.
Drexel junior goalkeeper Tyler Afflerbach had a pair of saves just seconds apart in the 78th minute that kept the Dragons in it. A foot save on a low bullet from 12 yards out prevented one of Charleston's best opportunities after the goal. The deflection ended up on the foot of another Cougar forward who could not get much on his shot as Afflerbach was able to reel it in. Making his first start since September 18, Afflerbach grabbed six saves, his most since stopping seven against Washington on September 7.
Dakota Peterson led the Dragons with four shots on the afternoon, two of which went on goal. Aaron Thompson also had a pair of shots on goal on three total attempts. Erik Alexandersson had three shots as well, including a header off a corner kick that may have been the best opportunity of the game for Drexel. It sailed just over the crossbar, inches from knotting the game up midway through the second half.
The Dragons will close out their three-game homestand on Tuesday when they host Columbia for their final non-conference home game of the season. That match kicks off at 7:00 p.m.
