2/15/2015 8:17:00 PM | Men's Basketball
Philadelphia, Pa. – Hofstra shot 63 percent from the floor and snapped Drexel's six game winning streak with an 81-57 win over the Dragons at the Daskalakis Athletic Center. The loss moved the Dragons into a tie with the Pride for fifth place in the CAA, just two games out of first.
Hofstra (17-10, 8-6 CAA) broke open a 9-9 game with a 14-1 run early in the first half. The Dragons (10-15, 8-6 CAA) went without a field goal for a stretch of 6:03 and would not get within 10 points again in the game. Malik Nichols scored all 15 points of his points in the first half for the Pride and was 7-for-8 from the floor.
The second half didn't go any better for Drexel. Hofstra scored the first five points and never looked back as it swept the season series from the Dragons. Moussa Kone led Hofstra with 23 points and did not miss a shot in 10 attempts. Juan'ya Green chipped in with 13 points, six rebounds and six assists. The Pride finished the day making 34 of its 54 shots.
Drexel was led by Tavon Allen. The junior scored a season-high 20 points and also had five rebounds. Damion Lee, who entered the game leading the CAA in scoring, was held to just 3-for-9 shooting and finished with 15 points.
Drexel begins a tough stretch away from the DAC on Wednesday. The Dragons play at James Madison and then visit Northeastern on Saturday. Both of those teams are one game ahead of Drexel in the CAA standings.
