Damion Lee Named First Team All-CAA
3/5/2015 7:36:00 PM | Men's Basketball
Baltimore, Md. - Drexel's Damion Lee was rewarded for his outstanding season by being named to the Colonial Athletic Association's First Team. The Baltimore native led the CAA and was fifth in the nation with 21.4 points per game. Lee was also named to the CAA's All-Defensive team.
Lee was joined on the conference's First Team by Scott Eatherton (Northeastern), Juan'ya Green (Hofstra), Addison Spruill (UNCW) and Marcus Thornton (William & Mary). Thornton edged Lee out for the CAA Player of the Year in a very close vote by the league's head coaches, media relations directors and members of the media. Also receiving top honors were UNCW's Kevin Keatts as the CAA Coach of the Year, Elon freshman guard Elijah Bryant as the CAA Rookie of the Year and William and Mary junior guard Terry Tarpey as the CAA Defensive Player of the Year. Northeastern junior guard Caleb Donnelly and William and Mary senior forward Tom Schalk were the co-recipients of the Dean Ehlers Leadership Award.
Lee's season was even more impressive when you consider that he missed all but five games last season with a serious knee injury. He came back with an even more impressive season, finishing in the CAA's top 10 in rebounding (sixth), defensive rebounding (second), steals (fourth), field goal percentage (ninth), three-point percentage (sixth), free throw percentage (second) and three-pointers per game (sixth). He also led the league in minutes played, averaging 38.1 minutes per game.
Lee and teammate Rodney Williams were both named to the league's All-Academic team. Williams is a business administration major from Richmond, Va., while Lee majors in communications. The Dragons open play in the CAA Championships on Friday night against the College of Charleston. The teams tip-off at 8:30 p.m. at the Royal Farms Arena in Baltimore, Md. The game can be heard live on drexeldragons.com.
