PHILADELPHIA - Drexel Athletics celebrated women in the sports industry Thursday night at the Water Works Restaurant and Lounge in Philadelphia with alumnae and ESPN anchor Chris McKendry.
McKendry, who played tennis at Drexel from 1986-88, spoke to the more than 50 attendees about the importance of staying involved in the Drexel community and networking with peers.
"I want to thank those who attended our wine tasting in celebration of women's excellence at Drexel Athletics," Dr. Eric Zillmer, Drexel's Director of Athletics, said. "A big thank you to Dr. Hazem Maragah for hosting us in such a beautiful venue and for such an important topic."
Drexel has been long recognized as a national leader in Title IX gender equity, diversity and shared leadership among men and women.
"Consider that U.S. News and World Report ranked Drexel Athletics No. 1 nationally in gender equity," Zillmer said. "The Women's Law Project reported Drexel ranked among the top five of 'Pennsylvania's Best Large Schools for Athletic Equity in Opportunities.' And the NCAA, which oversees 1,200 member institutions and over 300,000 student-athletes, awarded Drexel University a top five award for diversity.
"This creates a very healthy environment at Drexel Athletics for both men and women student-athletes, coaches and professional staff."
