Drexel Runs Past Quinnipiac, 91-74

Hamden, Conn. – Rodney Williams scored a game-high 25 points and Kari Jonsson nailed five three-pointers as Drexel earned a 91-74 road win at Quinnipiac on Wednesday night. The Dragons reached the 90-point mark for the first time since January of 2014. Four Dragons scored in double figures as the team heads to the holiday break with a 6-6 record.
Drexel's offense clicked from the outset. The Dragons scored 10 points in the first two and a half minutes of the game. They opened up an 11-point lead in the half when Williams took a pass from John Moran and scored on a lay-up. However, the Bobcats (4-7) answered and took a 29-28 lead with 6:34 left in the first half. The Dragons responded with 9-0 run to take the lead for good. Tyshawn Myles started the run with a bucket and Kurk Lee ended it with a three-pointer. The Dragons scored 51 points in the first half and went to intermission ahead by 10. Jonsson had 11 points in the first half and was 3-for-3 from downtown. As a team, the Dragons had seven three-pointers in the opening stanza.
The Dragons controlled play the entire second half and had a double-digit lead for the final 18 minutes. Williams had 17 of his points in the second half. He finished the game 10-for-15 from the floor. Jonsson finished with 17 points and had a career-best nine assists. Junior Austin Williams had his second double-double of the year, recording 10 points and 12 rebounds. Seven of his boards came on the offensive end. Kurk Lee also reached double figures with 13 points. He handed out nine assists and now has 19 in his last two games.
Quinnipiac, who came into the game outrebounding its opponents by almost four a game, had trouble keeping the Dragons off the glass. Drexel outrebounded the Bobcats, 42-35. The Dragons 17 offensive rebounds led to 23 second chance points. Once again, the Dragons filled it up from behind the three-point stripe. Drexel was 10-for-21 from deep. The team assisted on 25 of 33 buckets.
The Bobcats were led by Mikey Dixon, who had 20 points off the bench. Daniel Harris added 13 points and a team-best nine rebounds.
The Dragons will have a few days off for the holiday break before heading back to Philadelphia. Drexel will face Penn at the Palestra on Dec. 28 at 4 p.m.
