Drexel School of Education Athletes of the Week: Jonsson and Kutch

PHILADELPHIA – Kari Jonsson of men's basketball and Alexa Kutch of women's swimming and diving have been named the Drexel School of Education Athletes of the Week for the week ending Dec. 5.
Jonsson dropped a career-high 25 points in the Dragons' 78-72 win Saturday night at High Point. The freshman from Iceland connected on 7-of-12 shots from deep in the game. The victory evened the Dragons' record at 4-4 in the early going. Jonsson now ranks third on the team in scoring, averaging 11.0 points per game. He has also cemented himself as Drexel's sharpshooter, shooting 47.8 percent from deep (22 for 46).
Kutch won the 200-yard backstroke B final on Saturday at the AT&T Winter National Championships in Atlanta, Ga. The freshman from Easton, Pa. swam a 1:56.00 in the final, which broke the team record as well as the CAA record. She also finished third in the 100-yard backstroke B final, swimming a 53.76 on Friday. The time was the first sub-54-second time in team history and was five one-hundredths of a second off the fastest time in conference history.
Jonsson and men's basketball return to action Sunday night when they host Saint Joseph's at the DAC. Kutch and women's swimming and diving return to action on Jan. 7 when they host Northeastern and Delaware.
