
Women's Crew Finds Success Saturday at Philly Invite vs. Duquesne and Bucknell

PHILADELPHIA – Drexel Crew's women began its first back-to-back of the season racing at the Philly Invite on Saturday on the Schuylkill River against Duquesne and Bucknell.
The Dragons' varsity four and second varsity eight each won both of their races on the afternoon. The varsity eight also beat Bucknell by a margin of more than six seconds.
Drexel opened the day's racing against Duquesne, getting wins from the varsity four and second varsity eight. Racing in the Sandra Lee Sheller boat, the Dragons' varsity four A handedly beat the Dukes by more than 16 seconds, crossing the finish line at the 7:52.93 mark. The second varsity eight, racing in the Maria Papadakis boat, also picked up a head-to-head victory over Duquesne, winning with a time of 7:15.26.
In the races where the Dragons finished second, all three margins were within five seconds. The varsity eight, which was in the Marlene Buckley II boat, posted a strong time of 7:05.65, but the Dukes were just a bit faster at 7:01.77. The freshmen eight finished 3.51 seconds behind the Dukes with a 7:34.79 in the Marlene Buckley boat. In the Dawn Byers boat, the varsity four B posted an 8:10.67.
The Dragons picked up three wins against Bucknell in the second half of the day's competition. The varsity eight breezed past the Bison by more than six seconds with a 7:08.26. In the tightest race of the day, the second varsity eight bested Bucknell by 1.24 seconds with a 7:26.54. The varsity four also won by more than six seconds, besting two Bucknell boats with a time of 8:10.53.
Drexel will face a quick turnaround, travelling to northern Virginia for Sunday's Occoquan Sprints along with three men's boats.
