Williamsburg, Va. – William & Mary scored 63 second half points and turned a one-point halftime lead into a 108-85 win against Drexel in Williamsburg. The 108 points tied the most points Drexel has ever given up in a regulation game. Kurk Lee had a career-high 25 points and handed out eight assists in the loss. William & Mary improved to 12-9 overall and 6-4 in league play, while the Dragons dipped to 8-15 and 2-8.
The Tribe, who led by just one at the half, exploded for 17 points in the first three and a half minutes in the second half. William & Mary started the half 5-for-5 from deep and never looked back. Daniel Dixon and Omar Prewitt torched the Drexel defense as the two seniors combined for 56 points. Dixon, who had 32, was 5-for-5 from deep and 12-for-16 overall. Prewitt nailed six three-pointers and for the second straight game against Drexel could not be stopped.
William & Mary shot 63 percent from the floor, the highest percentage the Dragons have given up this season. In addition, the Tribe's 17 three-pointers were the most a Drexel team has ever given up in a game. The 108 points equaled Saint Joseph's total back in 1990. The Tribe found the open man all night and had assists on 28 of its 43 field goals.
The Dragons found themselves in an early hole and trailed by as many as 15 in the first half before rallying. Drexel went on a 14-0 run capped by a pair of Rodney Williams' three-pointers to cut the lead to 33-32. The rest of the half went back and forth and when Lee hit a runner in the closing seconds, the Dragons trailed by just one. Kari Jonsson had a nice first half, scoring 12 points and making all five of his field-goal attempts.
Lee finished the game with five three-pointers and had 16 of his team-high 25 points in the final 20 minutes. Rodney Williams finished the day with 19 points. Jonsson added 14, while Sammy Mojica scored 12 points. Drexel shot the ball well from the floor, making 46 percent of its shots and knocking down 10 three-pointers.
The Dragons will continue their three-game road trip on Thursday at Towson. Drexel will then face Hofstra on Saturday before returning home.
