WEST WINDSOR, N.J. — The Drexel women's varsity eight B raced to victory to highlight the Dragons' season-finale Saturday on Mercer Lake at the Frostbite Regatta. The men's varsity eight A took second.
The Dragons came away with three victories on the day, including the women's varsity eight B in the top flight, the women's varsity eight C in the second flight and the men's second varsity eight A in the top flight. The Dragons altered their lineups after weather conditions led to the cancellation of the freshmen events.
Drexel's women's varsity eight B, racing in the Cara Fry boat, edged the Drexel A in the Alleva XVII boat, 7:04.410 to 7:06.900, in the top women's varsity eight flight. The Drexel C, racing in the Marlene Buckley II boat, then won the second flight with a time of 7:26.160 to out-pace Jefferson (PhillyU) by nearly three seconds. The men's second varsity eight A, racing in the Lois Krall boat, raced to a winning time of 6:21.510 to outlast Temple by 2.5 seconds.
The Dragons' men's varsity eight A finished second behind Temple by 3.5 seconds with a time of 6:13.040 in the Lois Krall II boat. Drexel's men's second varsity eight B, which was replaced with the freshmen eight A racing in the racing in the Joseph Greipp boat, also finished second in its respective race with a time of 6:24.680, less than a second behind Delaware.
The originally scheduled freshmen eight races were cancelled because of the weather conditions.
The Dragons will now head into winter training and return for the spring season in March.
