No. 7 Columbia Narrowly Edges No. 9 Women's Squash Saturday, 6-3

PHILADELPHIA - The No. 9 Drexel women's squash team was narrowly defeated by the No. 7 Columbia Lions on Saturday afternoon at the Kline & Specter Squash Center, 6-3. The Dragons drop to 1-2 on the year, while Columbia improves to 2-0.

Drexel's Nos. 3, 4, and 5 all came away with wins on the afternoon to put the pressure on the Lions, but the Dragons could not convert in five-game matches at Nos. 1 and 7, which would have flipped the scoreboard in their favor.

Ryan Morgan handled her business at No. 3, defeating Nicole Kendall in straight games, 11-9, 11-8, 11-7. Two freshmen, Hannah Blatt and Ona Prokes, continued their impressive runs to start their careers as well. Blatt outlasted Jui Kalgutkar at No. 4 in five games, 11-9, 6-11, 6-11, 11-7, 11-7, while Prokes followed at No. 5 with a four-game win over Doria Chen after dropping the first game, 9-11, 11-6, 11-7, 11-6. Mariam Kamal and Apoorva Addepalli forced five-game matches at No. 1 and 7, respectively, but they could not come away victorious in the end. Kamal battled back to take a two games to one lead over Tanvi Khanna, but Khanna came back for the 11-8, 12-14, 7-11, 12-10, 11-8 victory. Addepalli played the tightest match of the afternoon. She jumped out to a two games to zero lead over Addie Fulton, but Fulton grinded out a 9-11, 8-11, 12-10, 15-13, 15-13 victory in the end.

The Dragons will return to action Sunday afternoon at the Kline & Specter Squash Center when they host No. 3 Trinity at noon.
