NJIT Downs Men's Basketball, 65-53

Newark, N.J. - NJIT went on a 13-0 run early in the second half to break open a close game and defeated Drexel, 65=53, on Saturday at the Wellness and Events Center. The loss dropped the Dragons record to 2-4, while NJIT is now 3-2.
Drexel suffered through a tough second half on the offensive end. The Dragons were held scoreless for a span of 8:40 in the second half as the Highlanders increased their lead from two points 15. The Dragons could not cut the deficit under ten points the rest of the way. In the second half, Drexel shot just 21 percent from the floor and made just one of its 11 three-pointers. On the other end, the Highlanders got hot, making 54 percent of their shots over the final 20 minutes to win their
Kurk Lee led the Dragons with 13 points. He was 7-for-10 from the line. Tramaine Isabell added 11 points and grabbed six rebounds. However, the duo combined for nine turnovers on the afternoon. Austin Williams scored nine points and had 11 rebounds, but missed five of his six free throw attempts. Sophomore Alihan Demir made his Drexel debut and came up with eight rebounds to go along with five points.
NJIT was led by Reilly Walsh, who had 14 points. Anthony Tarke scored 13, while Diandre Wilson chipped in with 12. Walsh and Wilson each had three steals. The Highlanders forced 17 Drexel turnovers and turned them into 14 points.
Drexel took a three-point lead to intermission. That lead could have been much bigger as the Dragons missed 10 free throws and were just 2-for-10 from deep. Inside the arc, Drexel was effective, making 11 of its 19 attempts. Isabell led the way with 11 points in the first half, while Williams added nine points. The Drexel defense held the Highlanders to just 36 percent shooting in the first 20 minutes.
The Dragons were playing without Miles Overton and Troy Harper, who each suffered injuries in the last week. In addition, Sam Green was limited to less than a minute as he was hurt in the first half.
The Dragons return home, where they will play two straight games over the next week. Lafayette comes to town on Wednesday night, while Rider will visit the DAC on Saturday afternoon.
