PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel women's tennis team dropped its match Saturday at Penn as the Quakers came away with a 6-1 victory.
With the loss, the Dragons fall to 10-3 on the year. The second leg of their Saturday doubleheader begins at 4 p.m. against Wagner at the Armory.
Drexel could not get anything going in doubles play as the Quakers took victories at Nos. 2 and 3 to grab the point. In singles, the Dragons battled, winning one match at forcing two three-set matches. Ryshena Providence fought off Nicole Berkman at No. 6 for the 6-4, 6-4 victory. Honami Yazawa won the first set of her match against Ashley Zhu in the top spot, but came up short in the next two sets, falling 4-6, 6-3, 10-8. In third singles, Kendra Bunch evened the match with a second-set win but was edged out in the third, 6-3, 4-6, 12-10.
The Dragons continue their weekend on Sunday when both teams head to Newark, N.J. to take on NJIT.
