PHILADELPHIA – Drexel men's basketball head coach Zach Spiker announced Wednesday that Alihan Demir signed a national letter of intent to play for the Dragons. A native of Ankara, Turkey, he played at Central Wyoming College in Riverton, Wyo. last season and will have three years of eligibility remaining.
A 6-foot-8 forward, Demir averaged 13.6 points and 7.3 rebounds while shooting 54 percent from the floor and starting 28 of 29 games in 2016-17 for the Rustlers. Prior to arriving at Central Wyoming College, he completed a post-graduate year at West Oaks Academy in Florida. Last season, the Rustlers finished with a 21-9 record and advanced to the Region IX Tournament quarterfinals.
Demir will join Jarvis Doles and Tim Perry, Jr. in Drexel's 2017 recruiting class. Doles, who is a 6-foot-8 forward, is currently enrolled at Mt. Zion Prep in Baltimore. He previously played at Hammond High School in 2016, where he was a Second Team All-Howard County selection. Perry, who is listed at 6-foot-10 and 220 pounds, averaged 12 points, 10 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game at The Phelps School, following his graduation from Cherry Hill East. He is a quality shot blocker, who give the Dragons' length up front.
