PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel women's basketball team could not overcome a sluggish start in their morning tip off with neighboring rival Penn on Friday afternoon at the Daskalakis Athletic Center. Drexel dug itself a double-digit hole midway through the first quarter and could not mount a serious threat the rest of the way as the Dragons fell, 55-39.

For the first time this season, no Dragon reached double figures. The team was led by Hannah Nihill's nine points. She was 3-for-9 from long range, accounting for half of Drexel's made threes on a day where the rest of the team went 3-for-23. Bailey Greenberg added eight points and six rebounds, while Keishana Washington scored six and Eline Maesschalck and Ana Ferariu added five apiece. Ferariu dished out four assists as well.

After Aubree Brown got the scoring started with a driving bucket, the Dragons allowed Penn to score the game's next 12 points, giving the Quakers a 12-2 lead with 4:23 to play in the opening quarter. A turnaround bucket by Tereza Kracikova ended the skid, but only momentarily as Penn netted the final four points of the quarter.

Only one Dragon, Nihill, managed to knock down multiple field goals in the first half as Drexel was just 7-for-31 from the field in the first 20 minutes.

Defensively, the Dragons buckled down after halftime, but they could not find their stroke from the field until it was too late. Drexel outscored Penn in the fourth quarter, 15-11, but the Quakers had entered the period with a 44-24 lead that proved insurmountable.

The Dragons will conclude their non-conference slate on Dec. 29 at Richmond. The teams will tip it off at 2 p.m.
