Hofstra Downs Drexel in CAA Play, 89-75

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - Justin Wright-Foreman scored 34 points as Hofstra held off Drexel, 89-75, at the Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex. The Dragons cut the Pride's lead to six with eight minutes to play, but an 11-1 run gave Hofstra its ninth straight win. Drexel (6-9) is now 0-2 in CAA play.
The Pride (12-3, 2-0 CAA) opened up a 22-point lead early in the second half when Wright-Foreman drove in for a lay-up after a Dragons' turnover. However, the Dragons chipped away and narrowed the lead down to 70-64 after a Coletrane Washington three-pointer. Drexel made 11 of its first 14 field goal attempts in the half, which helped it get back in the game. The Pride increased the lead to 10 before a scoreboard malfunction caused a brief delay. After the teams came back to the court, Hofstra scored the next eight points to take control of the contest.
Hofstra came out hot in the early moments of the game and had a 15-4 lead at the first media timeout. The Pride's lead stayed in double digits the rest of the half as it went to intermission with a 47-27 lead. Hofstra nailed six three-pointers and shot 62 percent in the first half. Drexel managed to make just one of nine three-pointers in the early going and overall shot just 36 percent in the half.
Troy Harper led Drexel with 22 points. The senior struggled from the floor (5-for-16) but once again got to the line, where he made 11 of his 13 attempts. Alihan Demir added 15 points, while Trevor John had three three-pointers and finished with 12 points.
Wright-Foreman had another huge day for the Pride. He scored 18 of his points in the second half, and had five rebounds and five assists. All five starters scored in double figures for Hofstra. The Pride finished the game shooting better than 60 percent from the floor (35-58).
Drexel will head back to Philadelphia and be off until continue Thursday night. The Dragons will host Elon at 7 p.m. in the first of two straight home games at the Daskalakis Athletic Center.
