Win Streak Snapped for Women's Tennis vs. Penn, 5-2
2/16/2018 3:46:00 PM | Women's Tennis
PHILADELPHIA - The Drexel women's tennis team fell on Friday afternoon at Penn, 5-2, its first loss since its first match of the spring season on Jan. 19. Drexel got singles victories from Kendra Bunch and Anisiya Simpson, but it was not enough to take down the host Quakers.
Penn won the first two doubles matches to complete, leaving the third unfinished with Drexel's Salma Ziouti and Clary Rodriguez Cruz trailing 5-4. In singles action, Bunch defeated Jimena Rodriguez-Benito in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 2. Meanwhile, playing at No. 6, Simpson won her match against Nicole Berkman, 7-5, 7-5.
That would be all the Dragons could muster on Friday, however, as the Quakers won four singles matches, three in straight sets themselves. The Dragons will return to action on Saturday for another Philadelphia-area battle as they host Villanova at the Hecht/Hamlin Center at 6 p.m.
