RICHMOND, Va. - Drexel senior Kendra Bunch has been named the CAA Women's Player of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday. Bunch, who recently became just the second player in program history to have 60 career victories in both singles and doubles play, earned the distinction after a 3-0 week at No. 2 singles to help the Dragons to a pair of victories.
Bunch was a bright spot in Drexel's 5-2 defeat at Penn last week, winning 6-4, 6-4 at No. 2 singles over Jimena Rodriguez-Benito on Friday. The next day, she rolled past Villanova's Lindsey Evans, 6-1, 6-1 as the Dragons defeated the Wildcats by the same 6-1 score. Bunch capped the week by rallying for a 4-6, 6-0, 6-2 triumph over Stony Brook's Ester Chikvashvili to help the Dragons earn a 4-2 team win.
In addition to her perfect singles week, Bunch was 3-0 at No. 1 doubles with partner Ghita Benhadi in the Dragons' action.
Bunch earned the second weekly award of the spring for the Dragons. Last week, the doubles team of Clary Rodriguez Cruz and Salma Ziouti were recognized as the CAA Women's Doubles Team of the Week.
The Dragons will resume play this weekend with a pair of home matches. Both the men and women will take on Binghamton on Friday at 6 p.m., followed by a matchup against Quinnipiac on Saturday at 6 p.m.
