PHILADELPHIA - The Drexel men's and women's tennis teams finished off a perfect weekend with victories over Quinnipiac at the Hecht/Hamlin Center on Saturday evening. The men won 5-2, while the women defeated the Bobcats 6-1. The men's victory was the 62nd of head coach Mehdi Rhazali's career with the Dragons, matching former coach Al Laverson for the most victories in program history.
The men followed the same pattern it had against Binghamton on Friday night to get the win. Drexel captured the top two doubles matches to claim the doubles point, then won four of six singles matches. The match of the day belonged to Sanil Jagtiani, who faced defeat at No. 3 singles, down 5-2 in the third set. He had won the first 7-5 before dropping the second, 6-4. Down 5-2, Jagtiani faced match points before rallying to win that game, then rattling off four more in a row to win a second 7-5 set and capture the match.
Sinan Orhon at No. 4 and Xandy Hammitt at No. 6 won straight sets victories, while Hamza Laalej at No. 2 joined Jagtiani in needing to grind out three sets. THe team of Jagtiani and Balaji Lakshmanan won 6-0 at No. 1 singles, whilee Orhon and Laalej captured a 7-5 decision at No. 2.
The women swept hte doubles points, with Salma Ziout and Clary Rodriguez Cruz posting a 6-0 win at No.1 and Kendra Bunch and Mya Fuentes doing the same at No. 2. Ryshena Providence and Marta Martinez netted a 6-3 victory at No. 3.
In singles play, the Dragons won five of six matches, with Bunch, Ziouti, Rodriguez Cruz and Anisiya Simpson cruising to straight-sets victories. Providence won a three-set match at No. 6 to round out the strong evening for the Dragons.
