BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Drexel women's tennis team finished off a 2-0 weekend with a 5-2 victory at Lehigh on Saturday. Drexel swept the doubles matches, then won four singles points to take the victory.
Ryshena Providence and Marta Martinez rolled to a 6-1 win in doubles at No. 3, but the other two Dragons teams had to battle for their victories. Ghita Benhadi and Kendra Bunch pulled out a 7-5 win at No. 1, while Salma Ziouti and Clary Rodriguez Cruz had to go to a tiebreak to win at No. 2, 7-6 (4).
Singles play was, in large part, a different story as three of the four Dragons' victories came in straight sets. Benhadi won at No. 2 6-2, 6-2, while Kendra Bunch pulled out a tough first set and cruised in the second, 7-5, 6-2 at No. 3. Mya Fuentes blanked her opponent at No. 5 with a 6-0, 6-0 win. The lone three-set victory of the afternoon for the Dragons came from Anisiya Simpson, who won at No. 6 6-2, 2-6, 10-8.
The women return to action on Friday morning when they host Bucknell at the Hecht/Hamlin Ceneter at 11 a.m.
