Wrestling Concludes Competition Friday at NCAA Wrestling Championships

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The No. 25 Drexel wrestling team's run at the NCAA Wrestling Championships at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio came to an end Friday evening. Austin DeSanto, Garett Hammond and Stephen Loiseau all bowed out of competition during Friday's wrestling.

DeSanto, the seventh-seeded 133-pounder, advanced to Friday's quarterfinal where he faced a matchup with second-seeded Stevan Micic of Michigan. DeSanto had beaten Micic earlier in the season at the Cliff Keen Invitational, but Friday was Micic's day as he went on to a 16-2 major decision. The loss sent DeSanto to the consolation bracket where he still had a chance at All-American status. Rutgers' Scott Delvecchio, however, came back from down 6-2 in the match to win in sudden victory, 8-6, after DeSanto was called for stalling three times late in the third period.

Hammond faced a matchup with Kennedy Monday of North Carolina in wrestle-backs, but fell by major decision, 9-1. Loiseau, the 12th-seeded 197-pounder, dropped a 9-4 decision to Stanford's Nathan Traxler in wrestle-backs.

Austin Rose (174 pounds) and Alex DeCiantis (184 pounds) dropped both their matches during the opening day on Thursday.
