Rowing Wins Six Races to Open Spring against La Salle and Villanova

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel rowing team won six races Saturday in its spring season-opener on the Schuylkill River against La Salle and Villanova. The Dragons got wins from the men's and women's varsity eights, the men's and women's second varsity eights and the men's and women's third varsity eights.

Drexel's top boats cruised to easy victories to open the spring. The women's varsity eight, racing in the Alleva XVII boat, raced to a time of 7:26.9, nine seconds ahead of second-place Villanova. The men's varsity eight, racing in the Lois Krall II boat, raced past Villanova with a time of 6:25.8, 13.5 seconds ahead of the Wildcats. Drexel's women's second varsity eight cruised to a 7:22.2 in the Cara Fry boat to beat Villanova, while the men's second varsity eight raced to a first-place time of 6:35.9 in the Sandra Lee Sheller II boat. Earlier in the morning, the Dragons' women's third varsity eight took a winning time of 7:19.0 in the Marlene Buckley II boat to best Villanova, while the men's third varsity eight A, in the Joseph Greipp boat, won with a 6:44.5, besting two other Drexel boats and La Salle.

Next up, the Drexel men will race Princeton (HWT) and George Washington on March 24 on Lake Carnegie, while the women's team returns to the water on March 25 at the Cooper Sprints on the Cooper River.
