Women’s Tennis Falls to Elon 4-0 in CAA Quarterfinals

ELON, N.C. - The Drexel women's tennis team was defeated by Elon 4-0 in the quarterfinals at the CAA Championships on Friday morning at the Burlington Tennis Center in Elon, N.C.
In doubles, Kendra Bunch and Ghita Benhadi lost a close match at No. 1 to Mari Page and Alex Koniaev, 7-5. Clary Rodriguez Cruz and Salma Ziouti were defeated by Oliva Lucas and Erica Braschi at No. 2, 6-2. At No. 3, the Dragons fought hard as Mya Fuentes and Ryshena Providence battled Suzanne Zenoni and Kristen Ward to a score of 6-6, but the match went unfinished.
In singles, Anisiya Simpson dropped her match at No. 5 to Koniaev, 6-0, 6-3, and at No. 6 Rodriguez Cruz was defeated by Ward, 6-3, 6-2. Rodriguez Cruz finishes her senior season having the second-most wins in program history in both singles and doubles.
In her final singles match, Bunch was bested by Lucas at No. 1, 6-2, 6-2. She ends the season as the all-time winningest player in Drexel women's tennis, leading the program in both career singles wins and doubles wins. She finishes with a career record of 66-34 and 69-32 in singles and doubles, respectively.
The Dragons finish the 2017-18 season with a record of 15-5, including a record of 10-0 at home. Their 15 wins are tied for the second-most in program history and their win percentage of .750 is the second highest mark in school history.
