PHILADELPHIA – Courtney Dietzel of women's lacrosse and Connor Schmidt of golf have been named the Drexel School of Education Athletes of the Week for the week ending April 23.
Dietzel scored 11 goals in two weekend contests, which included a 14-9 victory over William & Mary on Friday. In the game against the Tribe, the sophomore from Doylestown, Pa. netted a career-high six goals, the first three of which were assisted by Colleen Grady and one was assisted by Karson Harris. Dietzel scored three of the Dragons' first four goals to gain the early advantage and never look back. On Sunday against Elon, Dietzel found the back of the net five times, including three goals in the opening half. Grady assisted on three of Dietzel's scores, while Cassidy Delaney found Dietzel on the man-up for the first goal of the contest.
Schmidt finished third overall and helped the Dragons to their best finish ever at the CAA Championships over the weekend at Lonnie Poole Golf Club in Raleigh, N.C. Overall, the sophomore from Venetia, Pa. shot a three-round score of 218 (+2) to take third place. Schmidt shot a four-under 68, the second lowest score by any player in the round, to lead Drexel on Day 2. Drexel finished the tournament by shooting 886 over the three-day event. It is the program's second-lowest 54-round score at the CAA Championships. The Dragons finished in third place overall. Schmidt was named to the CAA All-Tournament Team for his efforts.
The women's lacrosse team closes out its regular season Friday evening at Delaware and is still alive for a spot in the CAA Championships.
