Williamsburg, Va. - William & Mary rallied from an eight-point halftime deficit to defeat Drexel, 75-69, in a CAA game on Thursday night. James Butler picked up a double-double and Camren Wynter had a solid game, but it wasn't enough as the Dragons fell to 10-13 overall and 4-6 in the CAA. The Tribe is also 4-6 in league play and 8-14 overall.
The Dragons played a strong overall first half and led by eight points at intermission. Drexel shot 59 percent from the floor and played well on the defensive end, holding the Tribe to just 12-for-32 shooting. However, the Dragons' offense started off the second half slow and the Tribe took advantage. Drexel was held scoreless the first 3:29 of the half but still held on to a seven-point lead. With Drexel ahead 42-35, the Tribe went on a 13-1 run to take the lead. Drexel countered minute later with a 12-2 run, capped off by a pair of Troy Harper free throws. The Tribe took the lead for good on a Justin Pierce bucket with just over two minutes to play. Drexel was held without a field goal for the final 4:05 of the game.
Wynter scored points to lead the Dragons. The freshman also had nine rebounds, seven assists and two steals. Butler scored 16 points on 7-for-10 shooting for the Dragons. He also had 11 rebounds as he picked up his fourth double-double of the year. Jarvis Doles had a nice game off the bench, scoring 11 points in 14 minutes of action.
Chase Audige scored 17 points to lead William & Mary. Pierce added 16, while Nathan Knight scored 14 points, grabbed 15 boards and swatted six shots. The Tribe shot 58 percent in the second half and finished the game at 47 percent. William & Mary also made 15 of its 18 free throw attempts.
Drexel will complete the three game road trip on Saturday night at Elon. After that game, five of the last seven regular season games will be at the Daskalakis Athletic Center.
