
Barczak, Jarrell, Kropman All Place at Franklin & Marshall Open

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Drexel wrestling team sent five wrestlers to the 2019 David H. Lehman Franklin & Marshall Open on Saturday in Lancaster, Pa. Winter transfer Parker Kropman reached the finals at 149, taking second place at the event. Evan Barczak won his third-place bout at 157 while Ebed Jarrell made it to the semifinals and placed fourth at 165.
Wrestling at 149, Parker Kropman went 5-1 on Saturday, making it all the way to the finals. After a 7-6 decision in the first round over 2018 NCAA Qualifier and ACC runner-up Ryan Bless of Virginia Tech, Kropman pinned Franklin & Marshall's Chase McCollum in the second round. He scored 10 points in the third round against Oklahoma's Zack Zeamer with two takedowns in the first, a takedown in the second and a four-point third behind an escape, takedown and riding time. After two more decision wins where his opponent only gained one point, Kropman advanced to the finals where he faced Virginia's Michael Murphy. Kropman went up 4-2 in the first behind two takedowns. Murphy evened the score after the second period, 6-6, as Kropman had two escapes. In the third, Murphy scored four points as Kropman finished runner-up in the division.
Evan Barczak went 6-1 on the afternoon. The sophomore won four bouts in the 157-lb championship bracket as he advanced to the semifinals where he faced Princeton's Quincy Monday. Monday won the bout by a 6-4 decision as Barczak scored a first-period takedown and third-period reversal in the bout. Monday went on to claim the 157 title as Barczak won the consolation semifinal over Virginia's Justin McCoy before winning a 7-6 decision in the third-place bout against Franklin & Marshall's Emmett LiCastri. Barczak fell behind in the first period 2-0 before evening it up after the second period, 3-3. In the third, the sophomore came away with the win thanks to two takedowns while LiCastri had three escapes in the period as Barczak controlled the mat, 7-6.
Ebed Jarrell won four bouts on Saturday, weighing at 165. The junior won by a 17-0 technical fall against Brown's Cade Wilson, a pin over Kutztown's Reed Custer, an 8-0 major decision against Princeton's Jake Marsh and a 10-1 major decision over Sacred Heart's Brandon Levesque. Jarrell withdrew from the tournament after his fourth match.
