Women’s Basketball Dominates La Salle on Tuesday, 69-31

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel University women's basketball team (6-4) turned in a dominating performance with a 38-point home victory over the La Salle University Explorers (6-5) by a final of 69-31 on Tuesday afternoon from the Daskalakis Athletic Center.
HIGHLIGHTS
* La Salle's 31 points were the second fewest ever allowed by Drexel.
* The win came as the 300th Division I home victory for the Dragons.
* Drexel had a season-high 24 assists on a season-best 30 made field field goals. Senior Aubree Brown led the team with five assists.
* Drexel held La Salle to single-digit scoring in three of four quarters including three points in the third quarter.
* All 14 Dragons appeared in a game for the first time this season.
* The Dragons had four players in double figures for the first time this season including senior Bailey Greenberg (16), sophomore Kate Connolly (12), sophomore Keishana Washington (11) and senior Ana Ferariu (10).
* Greenberg finished with a game-high 16 points on 7-of-16 shooting and had 14 points by halftime. She also tied for a team-high six rebounds and had a team-best three steals.
* Connolly notched a career performance including news highs with 12 points and five made field goals including two three-pointers.
* In addition to 11 points, Washington had five rebounds. It marks her fifth game in double figures in 2019-20.
* A. Ferariu was 5-of-10 from the floor for 10 points with three assists and two steals.
* Senior Mariah Leonard notched six points while junior Kayla Bacon grabbed six boards and tallied four points.
GAMEPLAY
Drexel set the tone by jumping out to a 10-2 lead, forcing seven La Salle miscues behind a full-court press and aggressive defense in the opening three and a half minutes. The Dragons ended the quarter on a 15-2 run including a 10-0 spurt over the final 2:10 to lead 25-8.
La Salle had its highest scoring quarter in the second with 13 points as the Dragons limited them to single figures in the other three frames. The Explorers closed the half on an 8-0 run as Drexel led by 15 at the break, 36-21.
Drexel then went up big in the second half. The Explorers scored the first three points of the second half to get within 12 at 26-24 with 8:38 to play in the third. Those would come as the only three points for La Salle as the Drexel defense allowed its least amount of points in a single quarter all year.
From there, Drexel went on a 22-0 run to take a commanding 58-24 with 5:58 to play in the fourth quarter, holding La Salle scoreless for almost 13 minutes. The Dragons earned their largest margin with a 65-28 advantage for a 39-point edge with under three minutes to play.
La Salle scored its 31st point on a three-pointer with 1:31 remaining in the game, just narrowly eclipsing the fewest points allowed by the Dragons in a single game (30 against Hofstra on Jan. 6, 2008).

* Drexel shot 40.5% (30-of-74) from the floor, 28.6% (6-of-21) from three-point range and 37.5% (3-of-8) from the free-throw line.
* Drexel forced a season-high 28 La Salle turnovers and capitalized by outscoring the Explorers 29-8 in points off miscues.
* The Dragons led points in the paint, 40-16, second chance points, 13-0, fastbreak points, 8-0, and bench scoring, 25-12.
* Drexel also outrebounded La Salle, 43-32, moving to 4-0 when grabbing more boards than its opponents.
* With 14 steals, Drexel recorded double figures for the sixth time this season as Greenberg had three and Bacon, Brown, A. Ferariu and junior Hannah Nihill each had two.
* Drexel is 6-0 when entering the fourth quarter with a lead, trailing for only 35 seconds in the final quarter of those six wins.
* Drexel is now 4-0 against Atlantic-10 teams this year (Davidson, Richmond, Saint Joseph's, La Salle).
