Dragons Fall in CAA Quarterfinals to Charleston, 73-61

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston jumped out to an early lead and held off Drexel, 73-61, in the CAA Quarterfinals on Sunday night. James Butler led the Dragons with 14 points and nine rebounds. Cam Wynter added 12 points, while Matey Juric chipped in with 11 points and five steals. Charleston will face Northeastern in a CAA Semifinal game tomorrow.
Drexel (13-19) trailed by 14 at intermission, but as they have done all year, the Dragons scrapped to get back in the game. After a Jarrell Brantley bucket, Drexel went on a quick 9-0 run just two minutes into the second half to make it a 40-33 game. Charleston (24-8) answered and was able to keep Drexel at arms length the rest of the way. Over the final 18 minutes of play, Drexel cut the lead to seven six times, but just couldn't get any closer. With 2:13 to play Butler dunked home a feed from Wynter making it 65-58. However, the Cougars scored the next eight points on their way to the semifinals.
Butler, who leads the conference in field-goal percentage, was 7-for-10 from the floor and just missed another double-double. Wynter rebounded from a tough first half to score 12, grab eight rebounds and hand out six assists. Juric had his best game as a Dragon with his career-high 11 points. He was 5-for-7 from the floor. Drexel shot 48 percent in the second half and 41 percent overall/
Grant Riller led the Cougars with 24 points. He also had six assists, five rebounds and three steals. Brantley added 16 points, while Sam Miller came off the bench to score 12 points. Charleston shot 52 percent from the floor, including 56 percent in the second half, and forced 15 Drexel turnovers.
