NEWARK, Del. – The Drexel women's basketball team came up short in the Colonial Athletic Association championship game on Saturday afternoon, falling to Towson in a tightly-contested game at the Bob Carpenter Center at the University of Delaware, 53-49. The Dragons led most of the afternoon, but could never build any significant cushion and the Tigers used a late 8-0 run to storm ahead for good.

Bailey Greenberg finished with 15 points to lead the Dragons. She and Niki Metzel, who scored 10 with two steals and five rebounds, were named the All-Tournament Team for their performances all weekend. Maura Hendrixson added nine points on 3-of-4 shooting from long range. Aubree Brown scored six with a game-high four assists and six rebounds and Keishana Washington chipped in four points and two assists. Ana Ferariu and Tereza Kracikova each netted a pair with Kayla Bacon adding one point from the line along with an assist.

The Dragons led by three, 46-43, with 1:41 to play when Towson got a steal and breakout lay-up to make it a one-point game and start the game-deciding 8-0 run. The Tigers grabbed the lead with 54 seconds to play, then forced turnovers on the Dragons' next two possessions as they tried to pull back in front. Brown cut a five-point deficit to two with a three-pointer with less than five seconds to play, but Towson converted at the line and Drexel could do nothing to get a miracle as the horn sounded.

Drexel, which was playing in its second consecutive CAA title game and sixth overall, will now await its postseason fate, which it will learn on Monday night. The Dragons are expected to earn a berth into the WNIT for a ninth time in 10 seasons.
