NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C - Drexel freshman Camren Wynter was named the Colonial Athletic Association's Rookie of the Year, while Alihan Demir and Troy Harper were each named Third Team All-CAA by the league's coaches, media and sports information directors.
Wynter, a point guard from Hempstead, N.Y., averaged 11.2 points per game and topped all CAA freshmen in rebounding with 4.5 rebounds per game. He was second in the CAA with 5.4 assists per game and his 41 steals were the sixth-highest total in the CAA. Wynter is just the third Drexel player to be named the CAA Rookie of the Year since the school joined the league prior to the 2001-02 season and the first since Damion Lee won the award in 2012.
Harper, a local product from Neumann-Goretti High School in Philadelphia, led Drexel during the regular season with 15.8 points per game. The senior was ranked in the top 20 in the nation in both free throws made and attempted before suffering a foot injury that forced him to miss the rest of the seaon. Harper shot 77 percent from the line and ended the year with 442 points.
Demir, a junior forward from Ankara, Turkey, was second on the team in both scoring (14.9) and rebounding (6.5). He ranked in the CAA's top ten in field-goal percentage at .514 and picked up 88 assists, the second highest total on the team.
Justin Wright-Foreman of Hofstra was named the CAA Player of the Year, while Joe Mihalich, his head coach, earned CAA Coach of the Year accolades. Hofstra's Desure Buie was the CAA Defensive Player of the Year.
