
Women’s Rowing Captures Team Points Trophy at the George Washington Invitational

RESULTS
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Drexel University men's and women's rowing teams finished up at the two-day 2019 George Washington Invitational in Washington, D.C. on Saturday afternoon from the Washington Harbour. The women won all eight of their races to win the team points trophy. The men won six races.
WOMEN / SATURDAY RACES
After an undefeated Friday, the women continued their ways on Saturday, winning five races. In the morning session against MIT, the Varsity 8 breezed through the course with a time of 6:27.58 in the Alleva XVII over MIT (6:39.22). The Second Varsity 8 (6:37.74) won with a margin of 17 seconds as MIT crossed in 6:54.14.
In the afternoon, the women went up against the host, George Washington. The Varsity 8 started the second session with a 10-second victory, finishing at 6:16.28 with GW following up, 6:26.19. The Second Varsity 8 (6:32.64) won a close contest against the Colonials (6:35.18). The Varsity 4 closed the perfect weekend with an 11-second margin of victory as they defeated GW, 7:20.01 to 7:31.11.
MEN / SATURDAY RACES
In the morning session, the Dragons faced Navy. With the First and Second Varsity 8 boats losing the head-to-head matchups, the Third Varsity 8 (5:49.52) came through with a six and a half second win over the Mids (5:55.97).
Drexel faired better in the afternoon as they closed the GW Invitational against Georgetown. The Dragons won all three of their races against the Hoyas. The Varsity 8 clocked a time of 5:39.33 to win as Georgetown finished at 5:46.74. The Second Varsity 8 (5:47.89) defeated the Hoyas with less than three seconds to spare, 5:50.41. The Third Varsity 8 capped the day with a 16-second win as they won the final dual with a time of 6:01.74 over Georgetown (6:17.27).
WOMEN / FRIDAY RACES
The Dragons pulled out wins in all three of their boats on Friday afternoon to begin the two-day invitational. The Varsity 8, racing in the Alleva XVII with coxswain Margaret Collington, opened the day with a 16-second win over Duquesne. Drexel came in at 6:36.70 with Duquesne at 6:52.40.
The Second Varsity 8, racing in the Cara Fry with coxswain Natalie Cleri, also defeated Duquesne with a time of 6:56.50 while Dukes finished in 7:19.40.
In the women's last race of the day, the Varsity 4, in the Diane Corle with coxswain Danika Meldrum, bested the Dukes (8:15.60) with a time of 7:49.60.
MEN / FRIDAY RACES
Drexel won two out of three races on Friday. The Varsity 8, racing in the Lois Krall II
with coxswain Hunter Reed, won a narrow victory over George Washington to begin the day. The Dragons crossed the finish at 5:45.30 while the Colonials came in shortly behind at 5:48.50.
The Second Varsity 8, in the Louis Krall with coxswain Olivia Szabo, won even a narrower victory over the Colonials by half a second. Drexel owned a time of 5:53.40 while GW was at 5:53.90.
In a three-boat race, the Third Varsity 8 (6:09.12) placed second behind Navy (6:01.70) and in front of George Washington (6:12.19).
