TOWSON, MD. - Towson's Brian Fobbs and Allen Betrand combined for 51 points as the Tigers upended Drexel, 89-73, in a Colonial Athletic Association game on Thursday night. The loss snapped a Drexel (9-8, 2-2 CAA) two-game winning streak.
The Tigers (8-9, 2-3) scored nine straight points as part of a 14-2 run to take control of the game midway through the first half. The Dragons started to chip away at the lead, but the Tigers closed the half by scoring six consecutive points, four coming off Drexel turnovers, to take a 47-25 lead at the break. The Tigers shot a blistering 58 percent from the floor and were 4-for-10 from deep. Drexel managed to shoot just 39 percent and committed eight first half turnovers. Fobbs had a huge half for Towson, scoring 14 points and making three of his five long-range attempts.
Towson picked up where they left off in the second half and extended their lead to as many as 31 at one point. Drexel shot 50 percent in the second half but at that point it was too late as the Tigers continued their dominance at home against the Dragons.
Camren Wynter led Drexel with 22 points. Coletrane Washington was one of the few bright spots in the game for the Dragons. The sophomore exploded for a career-best 17 points. He made three three-pointers and also had three assists. James Butler contributed 10 points and nine rebounds.
Fobbs finished the game with 28 points and made four three-pointers. Betrend added 23 as Towson finished the game shooting 57 percent.
The Dragons will be back on the road on Saturday. Drexel will play at James Madison at 4 p.m.
