Women's Swimming and Diving Wins Three Golds on Day Three of CAA Championships

CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. – Day three has passed and Drexel Women's Swimming is chipping away at the lead after winning three of Friday's six events. At the end of the night, the Dragons find themselves tied for fourth place, trailing third-place Towson by 90 points.
The 400 medley relay team consisting of Alexa Kutch, Gabrielle Rudy, Alicia Diaz and Lera Nasedkina took gold after swimming a 3:38.42 to set a new program record for Drexel.
Kutch became the first swimmer to take the gold in the 100 back in all four years of eligibility. She posted a time of 53.79 in prelims and touched the wall in 53.20 in finals, beating the silver medalist by over a second.
After capturing medals in the first two days of the championships, Rudy returned on Friday and found success in the 100 breast. She was crowned champion of the event after touching the wall in 1:00.44. She trimmed almost a full second off her preliminary time to win the first individual gold medal of her career.
Diaz missed the podium of the 100 back by one-tenth of a second, finishing with a time of 54.89.
Megan Sicinski placed in the "A" Finals of the 100 breast by swimming a time of 1:03.00 in the prelims. She missed third place by two-tenths of a second (1:02.77).
The CAA Championships conclude tomorrow. Prelims will start at 10 a.m. with the finals to follow at 6 p.m.
