Men’s Squash Finishes Eighth at Potter Cup with Loss to Yale

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Drexel men's squash team concluded action in the Potter Cup with an 8-1 loss to No. 6 Yale in the seventh-place match. The Dragons (10-9) will finish the year ranked eighth in the nation.

With the women's team finishing seventh in the Howe Cup last week, the 2019-20 season marks the first time in program history that both men's and women's teams will finish in the top-eight nationally.

Gautam Nagpal provided the lone win of the day for the Dragons with a comeback victory in the No. 6 match. Jed Burde won the opener, 11-4, but Nagpal answered with three straight for the 4-11, 11-9, 11-9, 11-4 triumph.

José López went the distance with Eric Kim in a five-game loss in the No. 5 position. López fell behind with 11-4 and 11-6 losses but won the next two – 11-4 and 14-12 – to force a fifth game. Kim prevailed in the final game, 11-6.

Shaan Dalal took one game from Jacob Rhee in the No. 8 match. Behind 11-3, 11-6, Dalal won the third game, 11-8, before falling in the fourth, 11-1.

The Dragons prepare for the College Squash Association Individual Championships this Thursday through Sunday at the Penn Squash Center in Philadelphia.
