Getting to Know the Incoming Dragons: Amari Williams

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel men's basketball program welcomes six newcomers to the 2020-21 roster. The incoming class of Dragons features three freshmen (Xavier Bell, Lamar Oden, Jr. and Amari Williams) as well as a trio of transfers (Luke House, Anto Keshgegian and Chuka Mekkam).
In this six-part Q&A series, fans will get some background on each student-athlete. Monday gives us a look at freshman Amari Williams.
Williams graduated from Myerscough College in Preston, England and was teammates with current Dragon Mate Okros. Williams has represented Great Britain at the U20, U18 and U16 level.
Q: What about Drexel most caught your eye?
A: What caught my eye most about Drexel was the campus and all the great facilities.
Q: When did you start playing basketball, and what is your proudest basketball moment?
A: I started playing basketball at the age of nine. I'll say my proudest moment in basketball was winning the U18 national championship in 2019.
Q: Who is your favorite NBA player, and what do you like about his game?
A: My favorite NBA player is Nikola Jokic. Having the ability to shoot the three and pass that well at his height is something I look up too.
Q: What is the No. 1 thing you worked on to prepare for the jump to NCAA DI basketball?
A: The No.1 thing I've worked on for this season is mainly my strength and shooting.
Q: What do you like to do away from basketball?
A: Away from basketball I just like to chill out, play video games and watch movies.
Q: Who is your greatest influence on or off the court and why?
A: My greatest influences are definitely my family and friends. Just seeing their success and having their support definitely helps me.
Q: What is something most people don't know about you?
A: I was actually born with 12 fingers
Q: What do you think you want to major in, and do you have any career plans in mind?
A: I want to major in business and would like to have a career in the sports business industry.
