Women's Tennis Opens Play at ITA Regionals

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel women's tennis team has concluded day one of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Regional tournament on Friday at Penn. Four Dragons were victorious in their first round matches, and one duo advanced to the round of 16 on Saturday.

Tara Veluvolu led the Dragons off with a solid singles victory over her opponent from Fairleigh Dickinson. The senior downed her opponent after identical 6-4 sets. Veluvolu is scheduled to face Chloe Brown of Rutgers on Saturday in a round two matchup. Isabel Cabrerizo also handled her opponent in two sets. The sophomore faced Oliwia Kempinski of Seton Hall and defeated her, 6-3, 6-1. The Logrono, Spain native returns on Saturday to face Lauren Stein of Cornell. Stein received a bye in the first round.

Lorie Lemongo and Renata Lombera each received an opening-round bye and are scheduled to compete in their first ITA tournament singles matches on Saturday in round two.

Lemongo and Mya Fuentes represent the Dragons in the doubles draw. The duo received a first round bye and then defeated their opponents from St. Bonaventure, 8-5, in round two. On Saturday, they are slated face a duo from Penn.

The Dragons return to Penn on Saturday, October 2, to compete in the second day of the ITA Regionals.
