Four Dragons Advance to Third Day of ITA Regionals

PHILADELPHIA – Xandy Hammitt and Alan Jesudason of men's tennis team advanced to the third day of singles play at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Northeast Regionals at Penn. In doubles play, the teams of Alex de Sousa and Jesudason and Matvey Radionov and Hammitt also advanced to the next round.

Hammitt continued to shine at the five-day regional tournament on Friday. After defeating two opponents in the qualifying bracket, the graduate student entered the main singles draw and defeated Sam Eden of Army in three sets. The Media, Pa. native dropped the first set, 6-4, but bounced back and won the following two sets, 7-6, 6-2. Hammitt will face Kaya Gore of Fairfield on Saturday at 9 a.m.

Jesudason competed in the first ITA match of his career and did not disappoint; the freshman downed his Penn opponent in identical 6-4 sets. Jesudason is set to face Max Westphal of Columbia on Saturday at 9 a.m.

The Dragons had two teams advance onto the next round in doubles play. De Sousa and Jesudason defeated their opponents from Binghamton, 8-3, while the duo of Radionov and Hammitt defeated their Niagra opponents with a similar score. Both teams will be back in action on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
