Syracuse Rallies in Second Half to Defeat Drexel, 75-60

SYRACUSE, N.Y - Mate Okros scored a team-high 16 points but Syracuse defeated the Dragons at the Carrier Dome on Sunday, 75-60. The Orange opened the second half with an 8-0 run to take the lead after the Dragons led at the half. Drexel is now 1-1 on the season, while the Orange is 2-0.
Syracuse opened the second half on an 8-0 run and made its first seven shots of the second half to turn a one-point deficit into a seven-point lead. The Dragons trimmed the lead to seven points on a Lamar Oden trey to make it 52-45. However, Syracuse capitalized on 12 Drexel second-half turnovers and pulled away late.
Okros finished the game 6-for-9 from the field and made four of his seven 3-pointers. He also had five rebounds. Camren Wynter added 11 points, while Amari Williams came off the bench to score eight points and grab six rebounds. The Dragons shot 42 percent overall and made 10 3-pointers. Buddy Boeheim led the Orange with 23 points. Jimmy Boeheim added 15 for the Orange, who shot 56 percent from the floor and were 8-for-16 from deep.
The Dragons played a solid first half and took the lead at the half. Wynter drained a 3-pointer with less than two seconds to go in the half to put Drexel ahead, 33-32. It was a fast paced first half with back and forth action and very few fouls. Drexel held a six-point lead late in the half after a 10-0 run. Tre Brown had a pair of 3-pointers in the run. Syracuse charged back and scored seven straight points to take the lead before Wynter answered. The Dragons made seven of their 17 long-range attempts in the first half and shot 46 percent overall in the opening stanza. Okros led DU with 11 points in the first 20 minutes. Buddy Boeheim also had 11 first-half points.
The Dragons return to action on Wednesday night with a visit to Hawk Hill, where they face Saint Joseph's.
