PHILADELPHIA – Drexel's Director of Athletics Maisha Kelly has announced the hiring of Mary Mulvenna as Senior Associate AD/Chief of Staff. Mulvenna will start in the newly created position at the beginning of the new year.
"I am thrilled to welcome Mary to Drexel Athletics," Kelly said. "Mary is a seasoned intercollegiate athletics administrator who brings a wealth of knowledge from her previous roles at conference offices and on college campuses. Mary emerged from a talented pool of candidates as an administrator who can partner internally and externally with stakeholders committed to the student-athlete experience and elevating Drexel Athletics. I look forward to Mary joining the Drexel University community. She will bring great value to the work we do on behalf of student-athletes and the University."
Mulvenna comes to Drexel after serving as the Associate Director of Athletics for Compliance and Enrollment Services at Northeastern University for the previous three years. While at NU, she served on the senior leadership team and was involved with strategic planning and initiatives in a number of areas that included governance, admissions and financial aid. Mulvenna was the primary liaison for a number of campus partners and collaborated with the general counsel's office on NCAA and institutional related issues. She also served as the sport administrator for a number of programs, including women's soccer, women's swimming and diving and men's rowing. She has also been Northeastern's lead administrator on name, image and likeness matters in the department. Mulvenna developed Northeastern's LGBTQ action plan for the athletic department to further educate and create awareness initiatives for department staff and student-athletes
"I would like to thank Dr. Subir Sahu, Maisha Kelly and the search committee for this tremendous opportunity," Mulvenna said. "I am elated to join Drexel University as Senior Associate AD/Chief of Staff. Drexel is a national leader in academics, athletics, and civic responsibility, and I look forward to working with the team to continue to enhance the University's mission."
Mulvenna has been active in numerous committees both at the NCAA and the University levels. She was a member of the NCAA Council as well as the NCAA Legislative Committee Vice Chair.
Before her tenure at Northeastern, Mulvenna worked at the assistant executive director at the Ivy League. Among her duties, she supported the associate executive director in complete management of the Ivy League legislative process in drafting and publishing of proposals, amendments, and final voting outcomes. Mulvenna previously worked in the conference offices of the West Coast Conference, the America East Conference and the Missouri Valley Conference.
A former student-athlete, Mulvenna played soccer during her undergraduate days at Temple University. She graduated with a bachelor of science degree in sport and recreation management in 2001. She also has a master's degree in sport management from Temple.
