Women's Rowing Wins Two Races Against Delaware to Open Season

PHILADELPHIA- A beautiful day with great racing conditions saw good racing all around for the Drexel Dragons and Delaware Blue Hens. The Drexel women's rowing team's varsity boat won their race against Delaware this Saturday morning. Of the four boats the Dragons raced on the Schuylkill River, they finished with two wins and two losses.

The varsity eight, racing the Alleva XVII shell, won with a time of 6:22.4, outpacing the Blue Hens (6:28.9). The Dragons jumped out to a small lead at the beginning of the race, which expanded throughout the length of the course.

The Dragons' second varsity eight, in the Cara Fry shell, finished behind Delaware (6:36.4) with a time of 6:40.9 in a competitive race from both teams.

The third varsity eight raced the Marlene Buckley II in the closest race of the day, losing to Delaware (6:44.1) with a time of 6:45.3. The Blue Hens held off a strong Dragon charge at the line, even to the 1000m mark.

The fourth varsity eight raced the Maria Papadakis, coming in at 6:58.7 to beat the Blue Hens (7:04.3). With the bow balls across at the 1000m mark, Drexel pushed their bow ahead to hold a comfortable lead to the finish.
