Women's Tennis Edged in CAA Quarterfinals, 4-1

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Drexel women's tennis team was defeated by Elon in the quarterfinals of the CAA Women's Tennis Championship on Friday afternoon, 4-1.
Elon jumped out to a quick start by winning the doubles point, along with the third-seeded singles match. Šárka Richterová won the top-flight to put the Dragons on the board and start to mount a comeback. The Phoenix won the second-seeded match to pull ahead 3-1. With three matches left to finish, Drexel still had life.
In the fourth-seeded match, Tara Veluvolu won the second set to force a decisive third set. The match went unfinished, but Veluvolu had a commanding 5-1 lead. In the No. 5 match, Marta Martinez won the first set and dropped the second set. The third set was unable to finish, but Martinez had a 4-3 lead. In the sixth-seeded match, Pauline Kharkover was able to force a third set by winning the second set. Kharkover's opponent pulled ahead to clinch the contest for the Phoenix with a 6-3 third set.
