Men’s Tennis Completes First Day of Penn Invitational

PHILADELPHIA – Drexel Men's Tennis opened its season with a 6-6 score against Georgetown at the Penn Fall Invitational on Friday afternoon. Operating under a hidden dual format, the Dragons played eight singles matches, and four doubles matches against the Hoyas.
Drexel freshman Alan Jesudason earned the first win of his collegiate career in the second singles slot. The Berwyn native dropped the first set but bounced back and defeated his opponent with 6-4, 6-3 victories.
Jesudason and Alex De Sousa paired up in the second flight to beat their opponent in doubles play, 6-2. Juan Manuel Sanchez and Gustav Wogen completed a clean sweep in the No. 4 spot to earn their first win of the season.
Djordje Janackovic and Matvey Radionov just fell short in the third-seeded doubles flight, 7-6.
De Sousa earned an opportunity in the No. 1 seeded singles match, and he did not let the opportunity slip. The sophomore notched his first win of the season after defeating his opponent in a pair of 6-4 sets. Similarly, Radionov defeated his opponent after completing a clean 6-0, 6-0 sweep. Sanchez took care of business in the eighth-seeded match to round out Drexel's singles action with a 6-3, 6-0 victory.
Drexel returns to the Penn Invitational on Saturday to face St. John's at 11:30 a.m. All matches will be played on Penn's campus.
