Dragons Defeat Buffalo, 5-2, to Open Spring Season

PHILADELPHIA – A near shutout performance in singles play propelled the Drexel men's tennis team over the Buffalo Bulls on Saturday for its first win of the spring season. Drexel defeated the MAC powerhouse, 5-2.
To begin the match, the Bulls took the second-seeded doubles flight. Drexel was then able to even the score at one with a win in the top-seeded doubles match Greg Hastings and Finn Macnamara of Buffalo took the third-seeded match to award the Bulls the doubles point.
It was a much different story in singles play. Drexel tied the match at one in the second-seeded battle featuring Sanil Jagtiani (6-3, 6-2). Buffalo won its lone singles point in the top-seeded match to make the score 2-1. The Dragons took control of the rest of the match. Xandy Hammitt defeated his opponent after dropping the first set, 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 (1). In the sixth-seeded match, Juan Manuel Sanchez needed just two sets to take down his Bulls opponent, 6-3, 6-0. Clinching the match in the fourth seed was Matvey Radionov. The senior navigated through a first set that saw a tiebreaker along with winning a tiebreaker in the third set.
The final match to finish was the fifth-seeded flight. Gustav Wogen took down his opponent in three sets, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.
The Dragons are back in action on January 22 when they travel to Providence, R.I. to face Brown. First serve is scheduled for 10 a.m.
