BY THE NUMBERS
- Lavelle recorded her point total on 12-for-19 shooting, including a pair of threes and went 5-for-6 from the line.
- Hetta Saatman had a personal best with 12 points, going 4-for-5 from both the field and the free throw line. She also had three steals and two blocks.
- Maura Hendrixson had a career-high 10 assists in the game.
- Keishana Washington scored 16, extending her streak of consecutive double figure scoring games to 36.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams struggled to find their rhythm out of the gate. Drexel started to find the bottom of the net first, going on a 13-6 run to take a 17-11 lead on a Hendrixson trey with 2:34 remaining. DU took advantage of La Salle miscues in the frame, scoring 10 points off seven Explorer turnovers in the quarter.
- Early in the second, it looked like the Dragons were poised to take control, going up 30-22 on a Lavelle baseline jumper at the 5:52 mark, but La Salle got hot from distance, using a trio of treys to spur an 11-0 run in just 75 seconds of action. Fighting through foul trouble, Drexel stayed in the game, trailing 42-36 at the half.
- The beginning of the second half did not go well for DU as the Explorers pushed their lead to 48-38 just 53 seconds into the third period. Drexel battled back, scoring eight in a row to pull within a pair before heading into the final 10 minutes down 56-51.
- Trailing 66-58 with 6:31 remaining, the Dragons roared back to tie the contest, scoring 10 of the next 12 points as Jasmine Valentine pulled in a board and hit a layup with 4:07 left. Saatman was instrumental in the quarter, scoring eight of her points.
- Drexel had a chance to go ahead, but a pull up jumper came off the rim with 17 seconds left. La Salle was able to score against a double-team with 2.1 seconds left to escape with the win.
