Women's Rowing Places Second at CAA Championships

PENNSAUKEN, N.J. – The Drexel women's rowing team turned in its highest ever point total at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships on Sunday afternoon from Cooper River Park.
The Dragons tied Northeastern with 38 points on the day. The Huskies were named champions by virtue of finishing ahead of Drexel in the Varsity 8.
For their efforts in the competition, Grace Comerford, Isabella D'Angelo, and Alexandra Natale were named All-Conference.
Opening the day, the Third Varsity 8, rowing in Marlene Buckley II, took the win in a non-scoring event by a margin of more than three seconds against NU as Maddie Depommier (coxswain), Addison Devine (stroke), Olivia Zwickle, Julia Porro, Valentina Frusone, Avery Panico, Madeleine Rubinstein, Sophia Lamb, and Kira Tracy (bow) crossed the finish line in 6:57.071.
Next up the Varsity 4 of Chloe Speciale (coxswain), Anna Kretzer (stroke), Abby Citta, Taylor Powell, and Genevieve Rowlands (bow) rowed Marci to second place in a time of 7:32.747.
The Drexel Second Varsity 8 turned in the most dominant performance of the day for any boat. Competing in Cara Fry, Olivia Szabo (coxswain), Julianna Rogers (stroke), Morgan Van Dexter, Lexie Hain, Rita Keefer, Rachel Willey, Rachel Civan, Makayla Wenzke, and Katie Ernst (bow) were several boat lengths ahead when they crossed the finish line in 6:41.032, more than 14 seconds ahead of second place Delaware.
Coming down to the final race of the day, Natalie Cleri (coxswain), Grace Comerford (stroke), Hayley McKeever, Mollie Knoff, Alexandra Natale, Isabella D'Angelo, Kayla Driscoll, Giavanna Hunt, and Kirby Droogan (bow), rowing in Alleva XVII, were even with Northeastern after the first 1,000 meters. Unfortunately, the Dragons could not hold off the closing stretch of the Huskies as Drexel finished with a time of 6:37.386.
