Philadelphia, Pa. – The Daskalakis Athletic Center, home to Drexel's men's basketball, women's basketball and wrestling teams, will soon have a state-of-the-art video board. The design was completed and approved in the last month and on-site construction is now underway. The project is scheduled for completion by the beginning of October and should be ready for the start of the 2022 winter sports season.
The project includes the fabrication and installation of a Daktronics center court LED video scoreboard, a custom indoor sound system, various smaller LED video boards, LED lighting, and a fully upgraded video production studio.
"The University is excited to be able to provide this significant upgrade to the DAC," said Subir Sahu, Drexel's Senior Vice President for Student Success. "The DAC serves as an epicenter to the entire Drexel community and this new addition to the building should enhance our student, student-athlete and fan experience. It will also enable our coaches to continue to recruit high-level student athletes who are proud to wear the Blue and Gold."
"The upgrades are a marker of progress and a statement of support from the University," said Drexel Director of Athletics Maisha Kelly. "This will present an opportunity to showcase the talent that competes in the arena, as well as allow us to engage our fan base in ways we have not been able to do in the past. Our goals remain clear that competing at a high level in basketball is critical to our department's success. We need to continue to enhance our infrastructure and support continued elevation of programmatic needs that promote success. This is another step in that direction."
"The addition of new lighting, sound and a state-of-the-art video board is big step in making the DAC one of the most fan friendly environments in Philadelphia and the CAA," said Drexel Men's Basketball Head Coach Zach Spiker. "Our players can't wait!"
"We have no doubt the addition of a video board to the DAC will make our game day experience memorable for our fans, student athletes and Drexel community," said Drexel Women's Basketball Head Coach Amy Mallon. "Go Dragons!"
"The new video board and lighting in the DAC will add a brand new excitement and energy to our Drexel Wrestling dual meets," said Drexel Wrestling Head Coach Matt Azevedo. "Now we can showcase our student-athletes and highlight our program with high level audio-visual that will add value to the overall fan experience."
The video board will replace the current score board that is currently fixed over center court. Drexel's basketball and wrestling seasons get underway in early November.
