RICHMOND, Va. – Three Drexel student-athletes have been named the Colonial Athletic Association Leadership and Sports Excellence Award winners in their respective sports as announced by the conference office on Tuesday morning. Kristi DiMeo of softball, Mya Fuentes of women's tennis, and Lucy Schneidereith of women's lacrosse were all recognized.
DiMeo has been a leader on the Drexel softball team for the past five years, leading by example and being compassionate towards teammates who might be struggling. The Turnersville, N.J. native concluded her Drexel career with a .398/.739/.474 line with 138 runs scored, 60 doubles and 53 home runs. The graduate student also excels in the community, volunteering with MANNA, the Samuel Powel School, the Albert Greenfield Elementary School, the Martha Washington School and various camps for young girls around the Philadelphia Area.
Fuentes, a fifth-year legal studies and business major, has been a staple in the Drexel women's tennis program along with Drexel's student body. The Boca Raton, Fla. native played an integral part in having difficult discussions with teammates about current events. A team captain for the 2021-22 season, Fuentes also made an effort to be supportive of her teammates. Fuentes is the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Chair for Drexel's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and a founding member and current Vice President of Drexel's newly founded Black Student Athlete Union.
Schneidereith was the Most Outstanding Player of the CAA women's lacrosse championship as Drexel won its first conference title with a thrilling 11-10 overtime victory against Towson. A First Team All-Conference honoree, Schneidereith was second on the Dragons with 44 goals this season and ranks fourth all-time at DU with 154 tallies. She is also eighth with 170 career points. Off the field, she is an FCA Huddle Leader and has provided more than 500 hours of her time during her college career to volunteering at youth camps and clinics to help promote the game of lacrosse. She finished the spring term with a 3.72 cumulative GPA in nursing and has been recognized three times on the CAA Commissioner's Honor Roll.
The Leadership and Sports Excellence Award is presented by the CAA to one student-athlete in each sport who represents the highest standards of teamwork, integrity, leadership and sportsmanship in his or her academic and athletic achievements. The CAA's Faculty Athletic Representatives voted on the winners.
