PHILADELPHIA – Director of Athletics Maisha Kelly has announced the hiring of Greg Cusick as Drexel's Senior Associate Athletics Director for Strategic Marketing and Communications/External Relations. Cusick will start in his new position on August 1.
"I am excited to welcome Greg to West Philadelphia and the Drexel Athletics team," said Kelly. "Greg's enthusiasm and vision about leading the external area was evident as we proceeded throughout the process. Greg is no stranger to the Philadelphia area, being a native of South Jersey, and growing up just across the river. He brings a strong background after working to grow and establish external functions of brand promotion, corporate sponsorships, marketing, media relations and licensing at Wagner College. We look forward to Greg joining the University community and assisting with elevating the Drexel Athletics brand and our partnerships."
In his role at Drexel, Cusick will be responsible for increasing the exposure and awareness of the Drexel Athletics brand and identity. This position will manage the external relations, marketing and communications staff and will work collaboratively with individuals and organizations across the University. This role will develop and implement creative and measurable plans. These include marketing and promotions of varsity athletics events and engagement, communications across all media and digital platforms, revenue through promotions and ticket sales, merchandise and fulfillment of corporate sales and vendor agreements.
"I would like to thank Maisha Kelly and the entire search committee for the opportunity to join the Drexel community," said Cusick. "I'm excited to join the athletics team and continue to build upon the Drexel Athletics brand. I'm looking forward to impacting the student-athlete experience as well as interacting with alumni, fans and partners."
Cusick was an administrator for Wagner College for the past five years. He was elevated to the Seahawks' Associate Athletics Director for External Relations position in 2021. While at Wagner, Cusick oversaw all corporate sponsorships, marketing & sales efforts, media relations, trademark and licensing. He also directed fundraising and alumni relations. In addition, he served as the sport administrator for the golf programs, cheerleading, dance and the marching band.
Before his appointment at Wagner, Cusick spent one year at St. Augustine Preparatory School in Richland, N.J., as the marketing and communications coordinator. He generated social media graphics and content while also developing Google AdWord & Facebook Ad campaigns for the school. Cusick helped increase St. Augustine's Twitter and Facebook followers by more than 25 percent while assisting in live YouTube streaming of specific athletic and campus-wide events. He was also the freshman basketball coach at St. Augustine.
Prior to his arrival at St. Augustine, the Sicklerville, N.J., native spent two years at Wagner as the marketing and media relations assistant, while pursuing an MBA in management. Cusick was instrumental in the Seahawks' local corporate sponsorship rising by more than 30 percent. He also developed and implemented strategic marketing plans for the football and men's and women's basketball programs. As the media relations assistant, Cusick was the primary media contact for the Seahawk men's & women's water polo programs.
Cusick graduated from Mount St. Mary's University in 2013 with a double major in sport management and economics. He began his career in college athletics as a marketing and new media intern at the University of Pennsylvania during the 2013-14 academic year.
Kelly also announced that Mary Mulvenna will add the title of Senior Woman Administrator to her title. Mulvenna will replace Laura White, who is retiring this summer.
