Women's Tennis Plays in Day One of Cissie Leary Invitational

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel women's tennis street traveled to the other side of University City to participate in day one of three at the Cissie Leary Invitational, hosted by Penn. The Dragons competed in a hidden dual against the hosts and were able to defeat them in two singles matches and a doubles contest.

Renata Lombera highlighted the day, helping secure a doubles win and winning a singles flight of her own. The senior paired with Cristina Corte Gonzalez and made quick work of their Quaker opponents, defeating them, 6-2. In Singles play, Lombera dropped the first set 3-6, but bounced back in the second set and won 6-3. In the quintessential third set, Lombera put away her opponent with an 11-9 score.

Corte Gonzalez also earned a victory on day one. The senior shut her opponent out in the first set then earned a 6-3 victory in the second set to pick up the first singles victory of the season.

The Dragons return to the Hecht and Hamlin Tennis Center on Saturday to face the Richmond Spiders in another hidden dual.
