Dragons in fifth place, just three shots out of the lead
POWELLS POINT, N.C. - Griffin Mitchell fired a three-under-par 68 to lead the field as the Dragons finished day one at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate hosted by Old Dominion. It was one of just six eagles made in round one. Drexel's Oscar Maxfield had one of those when he made a three on the par-five 18th hole. Liam Hart and Caleb Taylor were Drexel's other scorers with a 75 and 76, respectively.
East Carolina shot three-over par to lead the 15-team field at 287. SIU Edwardsville and North Dakota are one shot behind ECU. Old Dominion shot 289, one stroke better than the Dragons, who are at 290 (+5).
The second round gets underway on Tuesday morning. Drexel tee times begin at 9:15 when Maxfield will play in a group with players from Old Dominion and Radford. Mitchell will be the final Dragon teeing off in the morning when he begins at 9:51.
